Remastered Sonic the Hedgehog released on mobiles; given the Sonic CD treatment

After the 2011 remastered version of Sonic CD blew minds on consoles and mobile devices alike, Sega made the (probably wise) decision to team up with Christian Whitehead again, and give his Retro Engine treatment to the launch title of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. (With rumors of Sonic 2 being next!)

So what's new? Well as previously stated, this is a game on a new engine, so it's not an emulated game like the Sonic 1 on current consoles. Fortunately for this new engine, it's also not nearly as bad as when Sega tried it themselves with Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis for the GBA. If anything, it's just like Sonic CD's redux treatment in that the game has a larger screen, smoother look, and high quality audio (and while it's still Genesis quality, it at least doesn't cut out with other sound effects, like the original did). Not to mention that it adds newer features, like Sonic 2's Spindash (which mades some parts of this game incredibly easy), a bugfix for that ever annoying Spike bug that the original Sonic had, and the option to play as Tails or Knuckles the Echidna. And all the while it keeps a very smooth framerate, even on my aging Droid 2.

But therin lies the only downside. This  only (IE: iOS and Android). So no HD Sonic 1 goodness through Steam or consoles, I'm afraid. But who knows? Maybe Sega will change their minds in the future.

For now, more information on this particular Sonic title, along with a trailer and links to buy it, can be found on Sega's official blog here.

First Impressions: Slender- The Arrival

(NOTE: Staying as a First Impressions, since it's taking me FAR too long to play this game. And it's hard taking screenshots when you're terrified)

Ladies and gentlemen, let me take a moment to apologize for the lack of new articles for quite some time. I COULD use commonly cited excuses, such as other things in life or other projects that I focused on. And while those are slightly correct, I'll just nut up and say the real reason for the delay:

My next game to review was the new Slender game...

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon trailer is 90's as hell

As one could probably guess from my mega-hyped review of Double Dragon Neon, I like things that are cheesy and retro. I have a shelf full of old game cartridges, I enjoyed the Super Mario Bros. movie, and I generally liked everything about the decade I was born in.

So what does that have to do with Far Cry 3? I mean, Far Cry WAS an awesome game, but was definitely a serious game too. Well, back on April 1st, Ubisoft announced Blood Dragon as an upcoming expansion for Far Cry 3, saying it was a futuristic shooter with 90's sci-fi tropes in mind. It even had a website designed in the 90's Geocities style explaining the game. The real kicker was the tagline for Blood Dragon: "The Year is 2007. It is the future."

Oh wait, that's not the real kicker. The REAL kicker was when April 2nd rolled in, and Ubisoft said it wasn't an April Fool's prank.

That's right, Blood Dragon is coming. And this cartoony trailer is the last bit of proof, even showing a bit of gameplay. Needless to say I will be first in line to buy this game.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will come out for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on May 1st.

Blog Shout-Out: The Geeky Chef

Another Blog Shout-Out, encompassed in another short post! And this one's a goodie:

Now, everyone who plans to live on their own should definitely learn how to cook. I've learned this first-hand, being a guy who lived his first year on his own subsisting on ramen and microwavables. And yes, sometimes it can be a drag to do, given all the prepwork and waiting when you'd rather just eat something. But why not make it more fun by bringing a certain amount of nerd into it?

Introducing The Geeky Chef! It's a blog where recipes and foods from various video games and TV shows are shown, so that you can give them a try yourself. And they look simply delicious. Take a look at some of these:

Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls, from South Park
Butterbeer, from Harry Potter
Elixer Soup, from Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

There's also tons more that sound awesome, but unfortunately don't have a photo of the actual food, including the Cake from Portal, and Sweetrolls from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. If you want to have a nice, interesting dinner from the game/show of your choice, or have something geeky and delicious for a nerd party, I don't think it'd be amiss to try some of these recipes!

You can check out the website for the Geeky Chef here, or their Facebook page here.
